Our compact skid steer fits through a standard side gate, so backyards get the same treatment as front yards — no fence panels coming out. It scrapes the old rock and worn fabric down to clean grade.

Fresh rock in, spread to 2″
New rock arrives, gets moved and graded to a uniform approximately 2″ depth — the coverage that looks full and stays put.
How much does it cost to remove and replace landscape rock?
The spreading side of the job runs on RockSpread’s flat-rate tiers — $475 for up to 5 tons, approximately $700 for 6–10 tons, approximately $950 for 11–15 tons, and a custom quote at 16+ tons — while removal and haul-off is quoted flat based on how much old material is coming out. No hourly billing on either half, so the number we text you is the number you pay.

What do you do with the old rock?
Wherever possible, old rock is recycled or reused as clean fill rather than landfilled — sound rock still has a job to do somewhere, even after it’s lost its curb appeal. Mixed debris, degraded fabric, and material too contaminated with dirt to reuse gets disposed of properly. Either way, it rides out in our trailer and stops being your problem the day we load it.
Can you replace rock without damaging plants and irrigation?
Yes — protecting drip lines, emitters, and established plants is standard procedure, not an upgrade. We walk the yard first, flag irrigation runs and valve boxes, hand-work the tight zones around trunks and heads, and keep the skid steer to the open areas. If a drip line does get nicked (it happens on old brittle tubing), we tell you and make it right before we leave.
Fresh weed fabric option
With the yard scraped to bare grade, it’s the perfect — and only — time to lay new commercial weed fabric before the fresh rock goes down. Most re-rock customers add it; it’s cheap insurance against repeating the weed problem that pushed them to re-rock in the first place.
Timeline: most swaps take 1–2 days

Can you remove old rock only, without replacing it?
Yes. Removal and haul-off is a standalone service — some customers are switching to turf, pavers, or planting beds and just need the old rock gone. We scrape it, load the 14,000-lb dump trailer, and leave you clean grade with a flat quote for just that scope.
How do you protect drip lines and irrigation during removal?
We walk and flag irrigation runs, emitters, and valve boxes before the skid steer starts, hand-work around heads and tubing, and keep machine passes shallow near known lines. Old brittle tubing occasionally nicks — if it does, we tell you and fix it before wrapping up.
Should I replace the weed fabric when I re-rock?
Almost always yes. Removal is the only time the ground is bare, and old fabric is usually torn or decomposed — which is why weeds got through. New commercial fabric under fresh rock is inexpensive at that stage and resets your weed protection for years.
Can you match my existing rock color for a partial replacement?
Usually we can get close — text us a photo of your current rock and we’ll identify the nearest commonly available color and size. Keep in mind existing rock has faded in the sun, so even a perfect match will look brighter at first and blend in over a season or two.
Can you re-rock just part of the yard, like the front only?
Absolutely. Front-yard-only and side-yard-only swaps are common — many homeowners refresh the curb-visible rock first. Partial jobs still get the same flat quote treatment; a 400 sq ft side yard is only about 4–5 tons of new rock.
